Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, N.J. - 1B Jabe Bergeron, the Can-Am League's leading hitter, went 4-for-6 with two doubles and four runs scored as the Ottawa Rapidz defeated the Atlantic City Surf, 14-1, in a game at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Tuesday evening. It marked the fifth straight win for Ottawa.

The Rapidz (7-8) jumped on Atlantic City starter Austin Redwine, making his first start of the season, with three runs in the first inning, including a sacrifice fly by LF Jerome Milons and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to DH Nate Hall. Ottawa then added a pair of runs in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Hall and an RBI fielder's choice by CF Jared Lemieux. C Keith Geiger's two-run blast in the fourth made the score 7-0. In the sixth, RF Pete Pirman's sacrifice fly added another run for the Rapidz.

Atlantic City's Michael Santoro, usually a catcher, pitched the eighth and ninth innings to give the Surf's depleted staff a rest. Ottawa scored its final six runs during this stretch.

The Surf's lone run came in the eighth. LF Joe Burke singled, advanced to second, moved to third on RF Josh Burrus' groundout, and came home on a wild pitch with 1B Eddie Kim at the plate.

Bergeron, who came into the game hitting .391, was not the only Rapidz' player with a big night. Pirman was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while 2B Jose de los Santos went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. For Atlantic City (10-5), Burke, Kim, DH Clyde Williams and 3B Gil Zayas each had two hits.

Tanner Watson (2-4) picked up the victory for Ottawa, throwing six and one-third shutout innings, scattering eight hits and striking out three. In two and two-thirds innings, Redwine allowed two earned runs on one hit, while walking six and hitting two batters.

The two teams tangle in the third game of the four-game set on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. The Surf's Rory Shortell (4-2) will oppose the Rapidz' Mike Kusiewicz (2-5).
