
Skyhawks better Tornadoes

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Three Sussex pitchers combined to limit Worcester to five hits as the Skyhawks topped the Tornadoes 4-2 on Tuesday night at Skylands Park.
Matt Salvato went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits to pick up the win for Sussex. Michael Laluna then came in and pitched a scoreless1.2 innings before giving way to Matt Petrusek, who threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his 13th save of the season.
Sussex scored three in the bottom of the fourth when, with two outs, Matt Weston stroked a triple to right center. Chris Brown, Jay Yaconetti and Yohanny Valera then smacked three straight RBI singles to give the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead.
Worcester cut the Skyhawk lead to 3-2 with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh, but Sussex extended its lead to 4-2 with an RBI-double by Valera in the eighth.
Weston finished the night three for three with two runs scored.
Worcester and Sussex return to action at Skylands Park on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
