New Jersey Jackals News Release

Quebec City, QC - Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the New Jersey Jackals (4-11) surrendered ten runs in the frame as they fell to the Quebec Capitales (9-6) by a score of 12-1 on Tuesday night at Stade Municipal. The loss in a game that took just two hours and ten minutes was the Jackals seventh straight overall and ninth in eleven contests against Quebec this season. The Capitales jumped out to an immediate lead in the bottom of the first inning when DH Eddie Lantigua laced a line-drive two-run home run to left field. Lantigua's seventh long ball of the season followed a one-out double by CF Goefrey Tomlinson. Quebec starter Orlando Trias had allowed just one hit until the top of the fifth inning, when Jackals C Matt Lauderdale turned on a fastball and sent it halfway up the trees in left field. Lauderdale's sixth homer of the season pulled the Jackals within one at 2-1. That score held until the eighth inning.

New Jersey starter Aaron Tressler would run out of gas in the bottom of the eighth as Quebec struck for ten runs on ten hits to take a 12-1 lead, largely against the Jackals bullpen. Quebec 2B Josh Colafemina led off with a single, which was followed by SS Jose Contreras' first career home run to make it a 4-1 Quebec lead. Tomlinson then doubled to chase Tressler from the game in favor of reliever Hunter Davis. Davis promptly allowed 3B Patrick Deschenes to double home Tomlinson to put Quebec on top 5-1 before walking Lantigua and retiring 1B Patrick Scalabrini for the first out of the inning. With one out and runners on first and second, RF Alex Nunez shot a grounder under Davis and into center field, plating Deschenes as the Capitales took a 6-1 lead. A two run double by C Greg Stevens made it 8-1 before a walk to LF Issael Gonzalez and a single by Colafemina loaded the bases for Contreras. Contreras then reached on an infield chopper which pushed Stevens across to give Quebec a 9-1 advantage. A single by Tomlinson ended Davis's night and made it 10-1 Capitales. With left-hander Brandon Martin in, a Deschenes singled made it 11-1 before a Lantigua sacrifice fly capped the scoring. Trias (5-0) fired his second complete game in five starts with the Capitales, earning the win while allowing one run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Tressler (2-6) took the tough-luck loss after allowing just a pair of hits from the second through seventh innings. Overall, Tressler surrendered five runs on seven hits in seven innings while walking one batter and fanning six. Davis didn't factor in the decision after serving up seven runs on six hits in 1/3 of an inning out of the bullpen.

The Jackals continue their four-game series against Les Capitales de Quebec on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey right-hander Ted Serro makes the start against Quebec righty Michel Simard. You can catch every pitch via live webcast at www.jackals.com with the broadcast beginning five minutes prior to first pitch.
