
Pride, Burkett squeak by Rox, 4-2

(NASHUA, N.H. - July 29, 2008) The Nashua Pride picked up their second win against the Brockton Rox in as many games, defeating the visitors behind the strong start of rookie pitcher Issac Burkett (2-2), 4-2, in front of 1438 fans on Tuesday night at Historic Holman Stadium.
Burkett picked up the win in his second start of the season, providing the team with seven effective innings, only yielding two runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking four. Reliever Brett Palanski entered the game for the eight and ninth innings, earning his first save of the season, letting up just two hits in the ninth.
Pacing the Nashua offense in the win were catcher Mike Torres (2-for-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI), first baseman Bryan Duplissie (2-for-4, RBI, run scored), and third baseman Argenis Tavarez (2-for-4, run scored). Leadoff hitter Vinny Pennell set the table for the Pride with a three hit game from the top spot in the lineup.
Brockton starter Rolando Viera (2-7) took the loss for the Rox, also lasting seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on ten hits, walking four and striking out five along the way. Second baseman Melvin Falu was the only Rox hitter to record multiple hits, clubbing his tenth home run of the season and finishing the game 2-for-4.
Nashua and Brockton will continue their series Wednesday afternoon; with a special 12:05pm start time for Camp Day at Historic Holman Stadium. Righty Jarrett Stawarz (3-2, 3.97 ERA) will take the mound for the Pride in the daytime affair, while the Rox counter with right-hander Wayne Lundgren (6-2, 3.75 ERA).
