ATLANTIC CITY- The Atlantic City Surf trumped the Brockton Rox 13-2 in front of 1013 on Monday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium.
After being held to one hit through five innings, the Surf scored four runs in the sixth, five in the seventh, and another four runs in the eighth inning. Leading the Surf's charge was Wally Rosa and Rico Santana. Santana went three for five on the night with three RBI while scoring two. Wally Rosa's went three for four with three RBI.
Atlantic City pitcher Monte Mansfield went five innings allowing two runs on six hits. Reliever Kevin Brower got his first win of the year striking out two and forcing a ground out in one inning of work. The Rox John Kelly started off the game strong striking out nine Surf batters and walking four. Despite his effort he allowed four runs, five hits in five and two thirds innings throwing 115 pitches total. Kelly's record fell to (4-2) on the year.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Rob Fischer gave the Surf four more runs with a grand slam to left center on his fifth home run of the year.
The Surf start the second half 1-0 while the Rox fall to 0-1. Game two of the series will feature Atlantic City's Brian Rodaway (6-3) and Brockton's Mike McTamney (1-6). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. at Bernie Robbins Stadium.
