Suns up Lead over Delmarva with 4-2 Win

HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (38-19) increased their lead in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division standings to four games over the Delmarva Shorebirds (34-23) with a 4-2 win over the Shorebirds at Municipal Stadium on Monday night. The win improved the Suns record to 3-1 when playing Delmarva at home this season.
Hagerstown scored three of its four runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. The rally began with two outs when 2B Brennan Middleton singled to left. Center fielder Rafael Bautista followed with a triple to the wall in center field, driving in Middleton to make it 1-0. Back-to-back walks issued to LF Isaac Ballou and SS Wilmer Difo loaded the bases. Right fielder John Wooten then hit a ball to SS Justin Viele, which he was unable to handle and resulted in a fielding error. That allowed two unearned runs to score and the Suns to take the lead for good.
Delmarva put up its first run in the fourth on a leadoff solo homerun off the bat of 1B Trey Mancini. The Shorebirds scored again in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by catcher Chance Sisco. That brought Delmarva within one, 3-2, but that would be as close as the Shorebirds would get as Hagerstown answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Difo.
Starting LHP Hector Silvestre (2-2) threw seven innings (a season long), allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out three to earn the win for the Suns. Starting RHP Sebastian Vader (7-2) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds. He went six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five. LHP Jake Walsh notched his fifth save of the year by tossing the final two innings for Hagerstown, surrendering one unearned run on four hits.
These two teams continue their three-game series at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday June 3. The Suns will send RHP Lucas Giolito (2-0) to the mound for his eighth start and appearance of the year. He will square off against RHP Luc Rennie (2-4) for Delmarva. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
