Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - With six innings of one-run ball from starting pitcher Terrence Engles and a two-run homerun by centerfielder Chris Curran in the second inning that proved to be the difference, the Hagerstown Suns (11-12) defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers (15-12) at Municipal Stadium Thursday night by a score of 4-2.

With Engles (2-1) already en route to holding Greensboro scoreless over the game's first five innings, Hagerstown jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the second. First baseman Robby Jacobsen started things off with a double to the centerfield wall, then scored when designated hitter Stephen Englund dropped a single into shallow right field. Curran stepped to the plate as the very next batter, and lofted just the second round-tripper of his Minor League career over the wall in right.

The Grasshoppers finally got to Engles with their first run in the sixth, but the right-hander finished the inning to complete an impressive six-hit, five-strikeout performance. Relief pitchers Kevin Light and Carlos Peralta held the lead through the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, and Osvaldo Rodriguez came in to pitch a perfect final frame and record his team-leading third save of the season.

Hagerstown added an insurance run in the seventh when shortstop Jose Lozada led off the inning with a single and scored three batters later on a sharp grounder through the middle of the infield by cleanup hitter Aaron Seuss.

Jacobsen's double leading off the second inning extended his South Atlantic League season-high hitting streak to 16 games, and he added a bunt single down the third base line in the fifth to join third baseman Steven Souza with two hits on the evening.
