Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Lexington Legends Thursday afternoon in front of 4,110 fans at State Mutual Stadium to take a two games to none lead in the four game series.
The game was dominated by defense and pitching for the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Braves scored the only run of the game to take the 1-0 lead that would prove to be the only run needed for the win. The run came on a leadoff home run by Gerry Rodriguez (6). Rome pitching continued to be strong as starter Brett DeVall went five shutout innings while striking out six. Yeliar Castro went one inning of work and struck out two and Paul Clemens finished the game with three shutout innings and striking out five. Rome pitching had a total of 13 strikeouts on the day.
DeVall (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Braves, while Jordan Lyles (1-3) got the loss for the Legends. Paul Clemens picked up his first save.
