CHARLESTON, SC - Taylor Grote's line drive single in the bottom of the 11th plated David Adams as the Charleston RiverDogs mugged the Asheville Tourists for a 2-1 comeback victory in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of 5,497 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, the RiverDogs snap a season-long four-game losing skid and balance their record to 14-14 while the Tourists fall to 13-14.

Tied in the bottom of the 11th, David Adams drew a walk off reliever Alan DeRatt (1-1) and moved to second when DeRatt threw wildly to first, attempting to keep Adams close. Brian Baisley then singled Adams to third, and Adams scored on Grote's game-winning line drive to right field.

Charleston closer Pat Venditte (2-1), professional baseball's lone ambidextrous pitcher, shut down Asheville for two innings that enabled the RiverDogs to seize victory in the home half of the eleventh. He allowed one hit and fanned two.

After eight scoreless innings, the Tourists scored the game's first run in the top of the ninth as Beau Seabury lined a bases-loaded, one-out single to left.

But Melky Mesa belted his league-leading seventh home run over the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on the first pitch he saw from Asheville reliever Kurt Yacko to knot the game at 1-1 and to send it into extra innings. It came on the first pitch Mesa saw from Yacko.

In his second start of the season, RiverDogs starter Hector Noesi earned a no-decision but stymied Asheville as he threw 4.2 shutout innings with two hits and seven strikeouts. Noesi's performance extended his scoreless-innings streak to 20.1 to begin the season.

Asheville starter Dan Houston went 4.2 frames and allowed four hits while walking four and striking out three. Michael Marby pitched the eighth inning and struck out two of the four batters he faced while issuing one walk.

Charleston recorded nine hits on the night, with Adams and Baisley each recording a pair, while Asheville collected eight base knocks led by designated hitter Scott Robinson, who had two.

The RiverDogs battle the Tourists in Game 3 of a four-game set Friday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston sends former Notre Dame right-hander David Phelps (2-1, 4.33 ERA) to the mound while Asheville counters with righty Ethan Hollingsworth (1-1, 3.10 ERA).
