Hickory Crawdads News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hickory Crawdads dropped the opening game of a four-game series to the Hagerstown Suns, 5-1, before 2,032 fans at Municipal Stadium on Friday night. LHP Yoon-Hee Nam dealt a season-high 6.2 innings, surrendering only one run on one hit with a season-high seven strikeouts in the no-decision.
The Crawdads (20-21) struck first with a run in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 lead. RF Mike Bianucci hit the first of his two doubles on the night to lead off the inning. Bianucci then moved to second on a wild pitch from Hagerstown starter LHP Jack McGeary, and scored on a ground ball hit by 3B Matt West to second base.
However, the Suns (20-18) came back with a run against Nam in the bottom of the third inning, which was the only frame in which Nam surrendered a hit, much less a run. The 1-1 tie remained intact until the bottom of the seventh when RHP Mark Hamburger (1-4, 3.86) took over on the mound for Hickory. Hamburger retired the first batter, but would get touched for four runs in the inning, on four hits, one walk and two errors committed behind him.
Hamburger picked up the loss, while RHP Patrick Arnold (2-1, 4.44) registered the win for Hagerstown, pitching four scoreless innings in relief in the 5-1 Suns victory.
