Rome Comes from Behind for the 7-6 Win

(Rome, GA) -The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists 7-6 in "come from behind" fashion Friday night in front of 3,004 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves improve to 24-17 on the season.

Asheville took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by a solo homerun by Delta Cleary, an RBI triple by David Christensen, and an RBI single by Kiel Roling. The Tourists added two more runs in the second to give them the 5-0 advantage on a solo homerun by Scott Robinson and an RBI single by Jimmy Cesario. The Braves cut the lead to 5-1 in the third inning on an RBI single by Luis Sumoza and added another run in the fourth when Stephen Shults scored from third on a Jahdiel Santamaria ground out for the 5-2 score.

In the sixth, Asheville made it a 6-2 game when Roling scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Joseph Massey. In the bottom of the inning, the Braves scored three runs to cut the lead to 6-5. The first run of the inning came when Breaden Schlehuber stole home as part of a double steal, and the last two runs scored on a two RBI double by Ryan Barba. Rome took the lead 7-6 in the seventh on the Shults two run home run, and were able to hold on for the win.

Yeliar Castro (1-2) was the winning pitcher for the Braves in relief, while Michael Marbry (3-2) got the loss for the Tourists. Craig Kimbrel recorded his sixth save of the season by striking out six of the seven hitters he faced.
