Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Cole McCurry limited the Intimidators to three hits over his seven innings on the mound and helped the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 6-2 win over Kannapolis on Friday night at Perdue Stadium.
McCurry (3-2) retired the last 11 batters he faced, allowing just one unearned run in his longest start of the season.
McCurry had the help of his offense early, as Ron Welty put the Shorebirds (20-18) out in front early with a two-run home run off of Kannapolis starter Justin Edwards in the bottom of the first inning. Welty had two home runs in the game, becoming the first player this season to go deep multiple times in the same game against the Intimidators.
Edwards gave up five runs, all in the first two innings, over four frames on the bump. Edwards (1-2) allowed five hits while striking out three and walking three.
Justin Greene tried to get the Intimidators (20-21) back in the game, hitting his third home run of the season in the eighth, but Kannapolis could never cut the lead to fewer than four. Green finished 2-for-4, running his hitting streak to nine games and his on-base run to 18 straight.
Jon Gilmore also stayed hot, going 1-for-3 with a walk. Gilmore has raised his average over 70 points in the last week.
