Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD -- After mustering just one hit over the first six innings against Hickory Crawdads starting pitcher Yoon-Hee Nam, the Hagerstown Suns (20-18) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, racing by Hickory (20-21) for a 5-1 win.
The score was knotted at one as Hagerstown came to bat in the seventh, following a pitchers' duel between Nam and Suns counterpart Jack McGeary, who allowed just two hits over five innings of work.
Nam was replaced in the seventh by Crawdads' reliever Mark Hamburger (1-4), who allowed Suns third baseman Steven Souza to score the go-ahead run on a groundball single up the middle by right fielder Michael Guerrero. Centerfielder Chris Curran followed with a bloop single into shallow left to plate Guerrero, and second baseman Steve Lombardozzi broke the game open two batters later, lining a single into right to bring home two more and make the score 5-1 in favor of Hagerstown.
The seventh-inning outburst ensured a well-earned victory for Suns reliever Patrick Arnold (2-1), who pitched four scoreless innings in relief of McGeary. Arnold struck out three and allowed just three hits in the longest outing of 2009 by a Suns reliever. McGeary, meanwhile, put together his strongest start since the second day of the season, when he hurled five and two-thirds scoreless innings against Lake County.
The Suns produced their five runs on just five hits, by five different batters. Lombardozzi led the way with three runs batted in on the evening, including an RBI groundout in the third inning that tied the game after Hickory scored in the top of the second. Lombardozzi finished the game one-for-two at the plate with a pair of walks.
