Suns Tally Four in the Eighth, Best Lakewood 9-7

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Suns scored four runs in the eighth to cap a late comeback, beating the BlueClaws 9-7 on Sunday.

The BlueClaws (32-23) took a 7-5 lead into the inning, but Mike Bolsenbroek (0-1) let up an RBI triple to Eury Perez, a sac-fly RBI to Rick Hague, and a two out two-run shot to JP Ramirez to take the loss.

Both teams combined for 16 runs and 30 hits in the offensive slugfest. The Suns (24-31) also committed three errors to push their total over the past two days to eight.

Colby Shreve only lasted four innings for Lakewood, surrendering five runs on eight hits. Evan Bronson had a rough day as well for Hagerstown, letting up six runs (five earned) on ten hits through five.

The Suns jumped ahead early. Rick Hague hit a solo shot to start the game, Brett Newsome drove in a run on a groundout, and Stephen King hit a two-run shot for an early 4-0 lead.

Lakewood came back with four of their own in the second. Michael Dabbs singled, Hewitt singled one out later, and after both runners advanced on a wild pitch Korby Mintken singled them both in.

Leandro Castro followed with a base hit, and Jonathan Singleton came up with a two out two-run double to tie the game.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the third. Jeremy Barnes led off with a single, eventually scoring from third on a double play ground out for a 5-4 lead.

Hagerstown drew even in the fourth when Justino Cuevas doubled, took third on a wild pitch, and came in on a ground out, but the Claws would again answer in the fifth.

With one out Barnes doubled, and Keoni Ruth singled him in with two away to take back a 6-5 edge.

Lakewood added an insurance run in the eighth, as Alan Schoenberger hit a two out double and Korby Mintken hit an RBI single.

Mintken finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Suns reliever Luis Garcia (3-3) chipped in three innings out of the bullpen for the win.

Monday at 7:05 pm Claws RHP Brody Colvin (6-7, 3.19) will go up against LHP Graham Hicks (1-5, 5.79).
