Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds won an old fashioned pitchers duel against the Hickory Crawdads, 2-1, before 999 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening.
Crawdads (28-26, 68-56) starter RHP Braden Tullis dealt six scoreless frames, allowing just four hits and two walks while fanning four. RHP Bobby Bundy (4-5, 3.80 ERA) hurled the first seven scoreless innings for Delmarva, surrendering just three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
The Shorebirds (22-34, 54-72) finally cracked the scoreless affair with a pair of runs (one earned) in the top of the eighth inning against RHP Kyle Ocampo (2-2, 4.76 ERA). With runners on first and second and no outs, LF Levi Carolus hit an RBI single to left-center field, plating 3B Ty Kelly to put Delmarva on the board. Later in the frame, Carolus came in the score from third on a passed ball by C Leonel De Los Santos to increase the Shorebirds lead to 2-0.
Hickory made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. With 2B Jonathan Roof on second and one out, CF Jared Bolden smacked an RBI single past the glove of 2B Omar Casamayor, bringing in Roof to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, RHP David Walters recovered to record the final two outs and secure the Shorebirds win, 2-1.
Bundy recorded the win for Delmarva with Ocampo getting saddled with the loss for the Crawdads. Walters notched his third save for the Shorebirds.
