JP Ramirez's homerun in the bottom of the eighth gave the Hagerstown Suns (24-32, 60-66) the win over the Lakewood BlueClaws (32-23, 74-51) 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
With the Suns first at bat for the game, Rick Hague hit a homerun to left field. Hague's homer started the momentum as Adrian Sanchez was drove in by a grounder by Brett Newsome. Next up to bat, Stephen King hit a two run bomb taking the lead 4-0.
Lakewood matched that in the top of the second scoring four runs with two of those from Jonathan Singleton's double.
In the third inning, the BlueClaws took the lead 5-4 as Jeremy Barnes snuck into home after Keoni Ruth grounded into a double play.
The Suns tied the game in the fourth after Adrian Sanchez drove in Justino Cuevas with a grounder. Cuevas had previously reached on a line drive double to center field.
The BlueClaws scored another run in the eighth to take the lead 7-6 as Alan Schoenberger hit a double putting him in perfect scoring position with Korby Mintken up to bat. Mintken drove in the runner after a single grounder.
After a pitching change by Lakewood and with Eury Perez batting, Justino Cuevas stole second base. Cuevas had reached prior after a single. Eury Perez tied the game 7-7 after a triple to right field. With Adrian Sanchez on first after a line drive, JP Ramirez hit a homerun to right field giving the Suns exactly what they needed to win the game.
Lakewood didn't have any hope in the ninth inning as Josh Smoker came in for the save giving up zero runs with a strikeout.
