Legends Take Second Straight Over Augusta

Lexington starter Tanner Bushue pitched six shutout innings, and the Lexington Legends broke the game open with five runs in the eighth inning as they took their second straight game over the Augusta GreenJackets 8-2 Sunday evening in Augusta.

The Legends took the lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Miguel Arrendell led off the game with a base hit, Jiovanni Mier walked and Jake Goebbert reached on an error, loading the bases. Arrendell scored as Kody Hinze hit into a double play.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth. With two outs, Goebbert walked and Hinze doubled, sending Goebbert to third base. Aaron Bray followed with a broken-bat two-run single to center field, giving the Legends a 3-0 lead.

Hinze started the Legends' eighth with a walk. Bray followed with a drive over the head of center fielder Skyler Stromsmoe for a double. Hinze scored, and Bray took third on an errant throw home by second baseman Ryan Cavan. Ben Heath walked, and Jonathan Meyer singled to score Bray with the second run of the inning. Jose Casilla relieved Craig Clark on the mound for Augusta, and Renzo Tello greeted Casilla with a base hit to left field, loading the bases. Heath scored on a passed ball by catcher Hector Sanchez, giving the Legends a 6-0 lead. Grant Hogue walked to load the bases again, and Arrendell followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Meyer. Mier then singled, scoring Tello and giving Lexington an 8-0 margin. The GreenJackets scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to leave the final score at 8-2.

Bushue (7-8) pitched six innings and allowed three hits and no runs. He walked two batters and struck out four. Augusta starter Chris Heston (5-12) worked the first five innings and was the losing pitcher. The Legends have taken the first two games in the four-game series, which continues Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
