Rally in Ninth Saves Braves

Rome, GA - After losing the lead in the top of the ninth, the Rome Braves scored twice in the bottom half to take a 6-5 win over the West Virginia Power Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium.

Rome took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Back-to-back singles from Robert Hefflinger and Christian Bethancourt to lead off the inning put runners on first and second. A wild pitch from Phillip Irwin advanced both runners and a groundout from Edward Salcedo to plated Hefflinger.

The Power put two runs on the scoreboard in the fourth to take the 2-1 lead. David Rubinstein (2) hit a solo homerun to lead off the inning; then with one out, Aaron Baker doubled followed by a Ramon Cabrera RBI single to plate Baker. The Braves regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Joey Terdoslavich singled then scored on a Hefflinger RBI double. Then with two outs, Salcedo singled to right to plate Hefflinger.

West Virginia tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning . After two outs, Jose Hernandez doubled and later came around to score when Baker reached on a fielding error by Matt Weaver. The Braves added a run in the seventh for the 4-3 score when Jake Hanson doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Bobby Rauh and scored on a Kyle Rose sacrifice bunt.

The Power scored two in the top of the ninth to take the 5-4 lead off reliever David Hale. They tied the game on an RBI triple from Rogelios Noris and took the lead on a suicide squeeze from Jesus Brito to score Noris for the 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Hanson walked and stole second. With two outs, Todd Cunningham singled to plate Hanson. Matt Weaver followed with a single to move Cunningham to third. Terdoslavich then singled to center field to plate Cunningham for the 6-5 walk off win.

David Hale (5-8) picks up the victory for the Braves while West Virginia's Ryan Kelly (1-3) gets the loss. Rome and West Virginia meet again tomorrow night for game three of the series. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
