Suns Secure Second Half Championship with Win over Stars

Huntsville, Ala. - Brad Davis and Kevin Randel hit early homeruns as the Jacksonville Suns (81-58, 46 -23) cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Huntsville Stars (63-74, 25-43) while securing the second half South Division championship in front of 645 Sunday afternoon at Joe Davis Stadium.

Suns starter Jarrett Santos (5-3) picked up the victory, giving up one run and seven hits over five and one-thirds innings without allowing a walk. Stars starter Mark Holliman (7-10) fell in the loss, giving up the four runs on two homeruns and three other hits over six innings of work.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second inning as Brad Davis belted a two-out, three-run homerun, his 10th of the season, to open a 3-0 lead.

Huntsville scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning as pitcher Mark Holliman drove home J.R. Hopf on a sacrifice fly for a 3-1 score.

Suns infielder Kevin20Randel belted his 12th homerun of the season in the sixth inning, a two-out, solo blast to open a 4-1 score.

Jacksonville finished the scoring in the ninth inning adding three runs against Huntsville reliever Wes Littleton. A Ryan Klosterman two-run double and Logan Morrison RBI single ended the scoring at 7-1.
