Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - An early advantage quickly dissipated as the Montgomery Biscuits tagged Wes Roemer for seven runs on their way to an 8-6 victory over the BayBears on Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Evan Frey started the bottom of the first with a double against starter Brandon Mann (7-9) and advanced to third on a groundout before a sac fly by Pedro Ciriaco gave the BayBears (65-73, 28-40) a 1-0 lead.

Montgomery (64-73, 31-36) charged right back at Roemer (9-9) in the second as Jose Lobaton singled in front of a walk to Matt Fields. Cody Strait then knocked a grounder down the third base line to bring home Lobaton and Fields for a triple. Strait scored on a sac fly by Jason Perry.

Roemer was smacked around again in the third with the Biscuits piling on four consecutive two-out hits. Chris Nowak and Lobaton both singled while Fields' two-base hit brought home Nowak. Lobaton and Fields touched the dish after a two-run double by Strait, putting the Biscuits up 6-1.

Mann had some issues holding on to the big lead as the BayBears pulled in a couple in the bottom of the third Frey tripling home Eli Rumler after a lead-off walk. Frey came home on a sac fly by Mark Hallberg.

Montgomery picked up another tally against Roemer in the sixth with Brandon Chaves knocking home Fields to make it 7-3, but once again, the BayBears showed some fight in the bottom of the sixth.

Hallberg kicked off the frame with a single and took third on a two-bagger by Ciriaco. Ricardo Sosa recorded his 70th RBI with a double to score Hallberg while Cyle Hankerd's sac fly brought Ciriaco to the plate. Sosa scored on a groundout by Pete Clifford to pull the BayBears within one.

That's as close as the BayBears would get as the Biscuits added a run in the ninth against Kyler Newby who tossed 3.1 innings. Ryan Reid (S, 1) put up a pair of zeroes to finish the contest.

The Mobile BayBears have sent 100 players to the major leagues. They'll continue their final homestand on Sunday night at 6:05 with Matt Torra (9-13, 3.80) getting the start. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
