Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- Jerry Gil, Ruben Medina and Sean Watson combined on a three-hit shutout as Carolina won its seventh straight game, defeating Mississippi 1-0 before 6,711 fans at Five County Stadium on Sunday night.
The winning streak, which matches the fifth longest in club history, was extended thanks to a first inning sacrifice fly by Zack Cozart, scoring Kris Negron for the lead. Gil, who worked his deepest-ever Double-A game, maintained the lead from that point, ending with seven scoreless innings on three hits.
Each team saw a runner thrown out at home plate, while Carolina catcher Jake Long cut down two Braves baserunners stealing second.
Medina pitched a scoreless eighth, while Watson notched his eighth save by throwing a perfect ninth inning.
The Mudcats (28-41) close out the regular season on Monday at 2:00 PM ET with Jeremy Horst making the start.
