Smokies Clinch North Division Championship

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies clinched a second half North Division championship with a 7-0 win over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park.

Hung-Wen Chen turned in one of his most dominant performances of the season on the mound, throwing seven scoreless innings only allowing three hits and he struck out six West Tenn batters.

The Smokies struck first in the top of the second inning, with Starlin Castro driving in Blake Lalli on a triple to give the Smokies a 1-0 lead.

Jim Adduci gave the Smokies a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer.

Tennessee added more insurance in the eighth, with Brandon Guyer and Tyler Colvin both hitting RBI singles, as did Adduci who drove in two runs on his single. Adduci finished the game 2-4 with four runs batted in.

Marcos Mateo and Jayson Ruhlman shut down the Diamond Jaxx in the eighth and ninth, and first baseman Russ Canzler caught a Travis Garcia line drive to end the game and give Tennessee a second half North Division title.

The Smokies will face the first half champion Huntsville Stars in the first round of the Southern League playoffs.

The Diamond Jaxx series will end tomorrow with Casey Coleman (14-6) taking the ball for Tennessee. Nick Hill (5-6) will pitch for West Tenn.
