Suns Rally, Fall Short on Tuesday

Jacksonville, Fla. - J.C. Boscan drove in three runs while the Mississippi Braves (15-16) bullpen held off a late charge, as the Braves took a 3-2 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (16-16) in front of 4,796 Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Mississippi starter Jonny Venters (2-1) picked up the victory, dealing six and one-thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Jacksonville starter Graham Taylor (2-2) took the loss, giving up three runs and three hits with five walks over five innings. Taylor made his first start since being optioned back to Jacksonville from the Florida Marlins.

Rafael Cruz (8) strengthened his hold on the most saves in the Southern League, dealing a perfect ninth inning.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the first inning when J.C. Boscan singled in Gorkys Hernandez and Matt Young for a 2-0 score. In the third inning, Boscan drove in Hernandez on a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. In the first two games of the series, Boscan has driven in five of the six Mississippi runs.

The Suns broke through with two runs in the eighth inning, with an RBI double from Andy Jenkins and Lee Mitchell single to cut the Braves lead to 3-2. After the two hits, Brett Butts entered from the Mississippi bullpen and struck out the next two to end the threat.
