Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD: The Hagerstown Suns had won 5 of 6 and were at .500 for only the third time all year but lost Friday to the Lakewood Blueclaws 8-3 to even the series at one game apiece. LHP Matt Maloney (9-5) went eight shutout innings against the Suns to win his league-leading ninth game. The Suns didn't get shutout thanks to a three-run Drew Butera homer in the ninth. The Suns starter, Deolis Guerra (3-4) lost the game even though he went five innings and only yielded two runs on three hits and four walks.
With the series tied 1-1, LHP Jon Niese will try to give the Suns back the advantage on Saturday at 7:05pm against Lakewood's LHP Zach Cline. During the pre-game the Suns will give out 1,000 Hagerstown Owls Commemorative Baseball Caps Saturday in honor of the former team name and mascot when Hagerstown had a professional baseball team in the 1940's.
