Columbus, GA - Friday the Columbus Catfish (8-8) dropped a second straight game against the Charleston RiverDogs (8-8), this time by a score of 9-5. The loss wraps up the series at two games apiece.
Down 2-0 entering the bottom of the second inning Columbus scored four runs to take the lead. C Juan Apodaca drove in DH Jason Mooneyham on a ground out. CF Bridger Hunt then singled to drive in 1B David Sutherland. With two outs 2B Travis Denker doubled to score two runs.
Charleston regained the lead with three runs in the top of the third inning, but Columbus tied it with one in the bottom of the inning. Sutherland singled to center field to plate LF Lucas May. That was the end for the Catfish offense as the RiverDogs scored two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth for the final score of 9-5.
RHP James McDonald (2-7) allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks and suffered the loss. He was followed by RHP John Meloan, who lasted 4 2/3 innings. Meloan gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out four. LHP Kale Garrison tossed a scoreless ninth inning. The win went to LHP Wilkins Arias (6-4) after permitting five runs in five innings.
With a walk in the second inning DH Jason Mooneyham has reached base in 30 straight games and all 24 home games he has played with Columbus. RF Sergio Pedroza went 2-for-4 on the night. He has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games.
