Suns lose second-half opener

JACKSON, Tenn. - Eric Hull allowed a two-out, two-strike single to opposing pitcher Jae-Kuk Ryu, the first of five consecutive hits which started a four-run inning in the Suns' 7-4 loss to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in front of 1,094 fans Tuesday at Pringles Park.

Hull (4-4) earned the loss, giving up 10 hits and striking out seven. He was ahead in the count with two strikes on Ryu, who went 2-for-2 with two RBI. The Diamond Jaxx (45-25, 1-0 second half) increased their lead to 7-1 off Hull and reliever Glenn Bott.

The Diamond Jaxx laid down two successful squeeze bunts in succession in the second inning, taking their first lead, 2-1. Ryu (6-3) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs.

Delwyn Young hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning off Diamond Jaxx reliever Thomas Atlee, who made his Class AA debut. Young also drove in the Suns' first run on a groundout in the first inning.

The Suns (38-33, 0-1) have lost four consecutive games.

Right-hander Joel Hanrahan (4-3, 4.66 ERA) is scheduled to oppose West Tenn left-hander Sean Marshall (first Class AA start) at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday as the Suns (38-33, 0-1 second half) face the Diamond Jaxx (45-25, 1-0) in the second game of a four-game series at Pringles Park.
