Weber named Southern League Hitter of the Week

Suns' outfielder Jon Weber's bat helped Jacksonville clinch the first-half South Division title this past week. In the opening game of the week June 13 at Carolina, Weber went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in the Suns' 7-1 win. He continued his torrid hitting throughout the week, batting .520 with four home runs, both tops among Southern League players. For the season, Weber ranks fifth in the Southern League in batting average at .335. Weber attended college at Texas Tech and was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Reds on August 2, 1999. The Lakewood, CA native was signed by the Dodgers' organization on November 1, 2004.
Weber's award is the fifth hitter of the week award for the Suns this season after a 2004 campaign that saw no offensive awards for the entire year.
