HOOVER, Ala. - Starting pitcher Cody White allowed two early runs, but scattered five hits while the offense contributed 15 hits as the Jacksonville Suns (34-37, 1-0) opened the second half with a dominating 7-2 victory over the first-half South Division champion Birmingham Barons (40-31, 0-1) in front of 3,614 at Regions Park Tuesday night.

The Suns have cut Birmingham's season series lead to six games to five with Tuesday's win.

White then settled in, allowing only three hits the remainder of his evening while his offense took advantage of Birmingham starter Kyle McCulloch.

The Suns tied the game against McCulloch in the third inning with an RBI double from Mark Bellhorn and a two-out error from Barons shortstop Robert Valido scoring Bellhorn for a 2-2 score. Jacksonville gained the lead in the fourth inning on a groundout RBI from Ivan DeJesus, Jr. before Jamie Hoffmann's single scored Adam Godwin for a 4-2 Suns advantage.

Jacksonville added two more runs in the eighth inning against Birmingham reliever Brian Omogrosso as Mark Bellhorn's double scored Shane Justis and James Tomlin for a 6-2 lead. Bellhorn finished the night 3-5 with three RBI. The Suns ended the scoring in the ninth inning when Russell Mitchell doubled home Lucas May off of reliever Shawn Babula for a 7-2 score.

Cody White put down the last 10 batters he faced in order, before reliever Scott Elbert pitched two hitless innings to finish the game. White (2-0) picked up the win in his third Double-A outing while Birmingham's McCulloch (4-6) fell in the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, off of eleven hits in seven innings of work.
