The Smokies also announced that RHP Tanner Watson was released by the Cubs effective yesterday.

Caridad joins the Smokies for the first time after spending the 2008 campaign with the Class A Daytona Cubs. The 22-year old native of Haina, Domincan Republic had posted a 6-4 record with Daytona this season, with a 4.41 ERA over 13 games started. Ceda has started twelve games this season in fifteen appearances.

The Smokies' roster is currently at 22 players, one under the maximum of the roster limit.
