Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts and Mudcats played a highly competitive game until a four-run eighth inning for Carolina facilitated an 8-2 win over the Lookouts in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.
Carolina wasted little time in acquiring an early lead by plating two runs on a Gaby Sanchez double in the first frame.
Major Leaguer Josh Willingham added another run for the Mudcats in the third inning by driving home John Raynor on a double to left.
Chattanooga would enter the scoreboard in the third. Lookouts starting pitcher Sam LeCure helped his own cause in the third by leading off with a walk. Michael DeJesus followed with a bunt single to advance LeCure to second. Eric Eymann then loaded the bases by ripping a single to centerfield. A Shaun Cumberland force out on a grounder to second baseman Chris Coughlan produced the inning's run. With the runners now at the corners, a botched adapted double steal attempt resulted in DeJesus being gunned down at home in a classic 1-3-6-2 out. Tonys Gutierrez grounded out to end the threat.
The Lookouts inched closer in the sixth by scoring another run. Shaun Cumberland and Tonys Gutierrez began the inning with singles. Chris Valaika attempted to advance both runners via bunt, but Cumberland was thrown out at third by Sinkbeil. Justin Turner came through with an RBI single to inch the Lookouts closer, 3-2.
Carolina added a run in the seventh on a Cameron Maybin sacrifice fly, but blew the game wide open in the eighth by plating four runs. Two runs came on a Chris Coghlan double to right, while RBI singles from Willingham and Gaby Sanchez put the score at its final resting point, 8-2.
Sinkbeil (3-6) pitched six innings of two-run ball to earn the win. He surrendered seven hits and three walks, while striking out one in the winning effort.
LeCure dropped to 5-4 on the season. In six innings, he yielded three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks. He struck out seven batters in his outing.
Chattanooga will continue with their six-game homestand against the Carolina Mudcats at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
