HOOVER, Ala. – Despite six Birmingham Barons errors, the Suns lost, 8-5, in front of 1,722 fans Wednesday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Suns starter Edwin Jackson allowed four hits, but the Barons made the most of them. In the first inning, a double, single and a walk posted two runs for Birmingham to negate the Suns' opening run.

Trailing 2-1, Reggie Abercrombie tripled in two runs and scored on the play on second baseman Danny Sandoval's overthrow which gave the Suns a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. Suns starter Edwin Jackson did not allow a hit after the first until the sixth inning when Gabe Alvarez and Scott Bikowski hit back-to-back run-scoring singles to tie the score.

Alvarez had three hits four RBI; Bikowski had three RBI for the Barons (57-55 overall, 24-20 second half). Each hitter smacked two-run hits: a double hit into the gap by Alvarez and a bloop single over the infield by Bikowski. Suns reliever Lino Urdaneta (0-8) retired the first two hitters of the inning, but then allowed four runs when five consecutive batters reached.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Suns (53-61, 22-23). Abercrombie had three hits to lead Jacksonville.

Barons starting pitcher Tetsu Yofu pitched six innings and allowed four runs – two earned – and struck out seven. Matt Smith (4-1) won in relief and Jeff Bajenaru recorded his eighth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Right-hander Will McCrotty (1-4, 4.70 ERA) is scheduled to face Southern League ERA leader, Barons lefty Neal Cotts (9-6, 2.24) at 7 p.m. CT at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
