Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -- The Greenville Braves pounded out a second-half of the season high 14 hits and starter Adam Wainwright (9-10) scattered four hits over seven strong innings as the G-Braves defeated the Orlando Rays 6-1 Wednesday night at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Every G-Brave starter had at least one hit, led by centerfielder Charles Thomas who turned in a 3-5 performance that included a pair of doubles and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Thomas staked the G-Braves to an early one-run lead off of Rays starter Jose Veras (6-8) in the second inning with a double off the left field wall that brought Richard Lewis in from second.
In the fourth frame, Orlando would knot the game at one apiece on John-Paul Davis' first homerun of the season, an opposite field shot. But, Greenville responded with a homer of their own in the bottom half of the inning, a two-run bomb from Lewis.
The flood gates opened in the bottom of the sixth as the G-Braves sent eight batters to the plate and picked up five hits, including a J.C. Boscan solo blast, en-route to three more runs and a 6-1 lead.
Bubba Nelson and Alec Zumwalt held the Rays at bay for the final six outs of the ballgame.
