JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Suns hit into three double plays and stranded 10 runners in a 4-1 loss to the Mobile BayBears in front of 2,466 fans Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

For the sixth consecutive games, the Suns smashed double-digit hits, but only once did the team get one with a runner in scoring position. Eric Langill singled with two outs in the sixth to pull the Suns to within 3-1. He threw out two runners at second base in the fifth inning and had two hits to raise his average to .333.

Joel Hanrahan (2-3) started and earned the loss because of a three-run third inning. Hanrahan struck out his fifth consecutive batter, Kennard Jones who reached on a two-base error by Langill on an overthrow toward first base. Ronnie Merrill followed with an RBI single and Paul McAnulty smashed a two-run home run to right field, giving the BayBears a 3-0 lead. Hanrahan left the game during his warmup tosses in the fifth, citing a mild cramp in his hamstring.

BayBears starter Mike Thompson (4-2) scattered 10 hits and allowed one run over seven innings en route to the victory. Dale Thayer delivered a scoreless ninth to earn his 10th save.

Right-hander Jonathan Broxton (2-2, 3.72 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Mobile right-hander Travis Chick (2-3, 5.33) at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday as the Suns (25-27) face the BayBears (22-30) in the second game of a four-game series at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

SUNS SPOTS: The Suns have smacked 80 hits over the last six games and have double-digit hits in 12 of 15 games. ...C Russell Martin struck out as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, halting his hitting streak at 10 games, which tied a career-high. ...OF Tydus Meadows (sore wrist) missed his fifth consecutive game. ...2B Delwyn Young was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week and has batted 15-for-38 (.395) with three home runs in the last nine games. ...CF Todd Donovan is batting 21-for-53 (.396) with nine extra-base hits and three home runs in his last 12 games.
