Sevierville, TN- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx picked up their third straight win as they defeated the Tennessee Smokies 6-4 in the first game of a four game series from Smokies Park.

After spotting the Smokies a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Jaxx starter Jae-kuk Ryu held Tennessee hitless until being taken out of the game after seven innings. Ryu (5-2) allowed just four baserunners in his final six innings of work, three of them via the walk.

While Ryu was keeping the Smokies in check, the offense finally came to life in the sixth inning when Buck Coats tied the game with a clutch two out, two run single to left off tony Pena (0-5). Matt Craig gave the Jaxx the lead for good when he hit a double inches away from Williams and Zeringue to drive in two more.

Tennessee made it interesting in the ninth when the Smokies scored two runs in the ninth to cut the lead to 6-4. With the bases loaded, Talley Haines induced Dan Uggla to ground into a game ending double play.

Game two of the four game series takes place on Wednesday night at Smokies Park. Right-hander Ricky Nolasco (6-0 2.08) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. The Smokies will counter with righty Adam Bass (1-5 4.47).
