Mobile BayBears News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL- When Paul McAnulty's third inning two-run home run cleared the right field wall, it provided all the runs the BayBears needed, as they beat the Jacksonville Suns 4-1 in Jacksonville. McAnulty's home run was his team-leading seventh of the year.
The BayBears were led on the mound by Mike Thompson (4-2), who pitched seven innings and only allowed one run. Thompson scattered 10 hits, walked one and struck out five. His counterpart, Joel Hanrahan, left the game for Jacksonville just before the fifth inning began, because of a sore hamstring.
Mobile's other two runs came on an RBI single by Ronnie Merrill in the third inning, and then another RBI for Merrill in the ninth when he walked with the bases loaded.
"We have a good hitting lineup, and a lot of games left," said BayBears third baseman Corey Smith, who had two hits in the game. "Luckily we are only 5.5 games out."
The BayBears play three more times in Jacksonville, including Wednesday at 12:05 Central Time. The series in Jacksonville is followed by a four game series in Montgomery. All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 59, and on the internet via www.mobilebaybears.com.
