Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
ZEBULON, N.C. â The Suns won their fifth consecutive game, extending their first-place lead to 1½ games with an 11-5 victory over the Carolina Mudcats in front of 3,475 fans Tuesday at Five County Stadium.
Russell Martin hit his fifth home run, a solo shot and Todd Donovan hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Suns a 7-0 lead. On the next pitch, Mudcats starting pitcher Scott Olsen threw a fastball behind Jon Weber's head. Weber slowly walked toward the mound and benches cleared. No punches were thrown, but both players were ejected. Olsen (5-4) gave up seven runs in 3-2/3 innings and earned the loss.
Suns starting pitcher Eric Stults doubled and singled, driving in three runs. Stults (4-3) also earned the win, though he was hit very hard from the fourth inning on. The rest of the Suns' offense more than backed him. Tydus Meadows hit a two-run double to give the Suns (36-29) an initial 2-0 lead. Meadows drove in three runs, starting a four-run fifth inning with a bases loaded walk.
The Suns allowed four unanswered runs to Carolina from the fifth inning on, including two home runs.
