Broxton named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

Suns' starter Jonathan Broxton picked up two wins in two starts this week to help keep Jacksonville in the race for first place in the South Division. Broxton picked up his first win of the week in the Suns' 10-0 shutout of the Lookouts June 6 at BellSouth Park. The right-hander allowed four singles and struck out nine batters in six innings in the game. Broxton improved to 4-2 on the season with a win in the Suns' 7-2 victory over North Division leader Carolina June 12 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Augusta, GA native pitched six innings in the ballgame, allowing seven hits and one earned run to go along with five strikeouts. Baseball America rates Broxton the number nine prospect in the Dodgers' organization. Broxton was selected by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2002 draft out of Burke County High School in Waynesboro, GA.
