Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs dropped their second straight to the Rapid City Rush Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center, falling 4-2 to the same club they will face Tuesday night in South Dakota in the two's fourth straight meeting.
Arizona finished 1-for-5 with the man advantage, snapping a three-game power play drought.
Joey Sides extended his point streak to three games with his eighth goal of the season and sixth in his last eight contests. Sides tallied four seconds into a second-period power play, lifting a shot over Tim Boron to cut Arizona's deficit to 4-2. Former Rush forward Luke Erickson assisted on the play, winning an offensive zone faceoff forward to Sides at 14:27.
Brendon Hodge gave Rapid City an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest with his first of two tallies on the night.
Tyler Butler knotted the score at one with 1:59 to play in the opening frame, firing a slap shot from the high slot through traffic and over the glove of Tim Boron, sending a flurry of stuffed animals onto the ice as part of the team's second annual 'Teddy Bear Toss'.
Les Reaney reclaimed a one-goal lead for the Rush less than two minutes into the second period with his third goal in two games. Defenseman Vladimir Hartinger sent a pass right to left through the slot to Reaney at the near post 1:55 into the middle frame.
Grant Farrell stretched his club's lead to 3-1 with an unassisted marker at the 4:30 mark.
On the man advantage after Karl Sellan was whistled for goalie interference, Ryan Menei collected his second assist on the night with 8:06 to play in the second, faking a shot from the top of the near circle before finding Hodge for his second goal of the contest skating below the left circle.
Levente Szuper turned aside 25 of 29 shots in the loss while Tim Boron made 41 saves in his Rapid City debut.
Sundogs rookie netminder Bobby Jarosz was activated from injured reserve prior to the game as Doug Groenestege was placed on goaltender I.R. after leaving Friday night's contest with an undisclosed injury.
Arizona (11-12-3) heads on the road for two games beginning Tuesday at 6:35pm (Arizona time) against the Rush (14-9-4) before returning home for six straight at Tim's Toyota Center. Listen to Tuesday's game live online at www.cattlecountryradio.com and on KDDL 'Cattle Country' 94.3FM, the Official Radio Home of Arizona Sundogs Hockey.
