Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Arizona Sundogs topped the Rapid City Rush by a 3-0 score in front of a sellout crowd at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena. The Rush were held off of the scoreboard for the first time in their history.

It didn't take long for the Sundogs to get on the board as Karl Sellan was able to make a move past Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry for the first goal of the game at 1:29 of the first. Assisting on the play were Martin Gascon and Mark Kolanos. Just over halfway into the period, Rapid City's Kyle Sheen picked up a number of penalties that ultimately resulted in a rare 9-minute powerplay chance for Arizona. Sellan then contributed his 20th goal of the season to double the lead at the 16:37 mark with Chris Batalone and Peter Cartwright picking up the helpers on the powerplay goal. Shots after 20 minutes of play were a lopsided 15-4.

Neither team found the back of the net until with just 51 seconds left in the game, Jon Landry scored an empty-net goal to seal the victory. Shots were 20-8 in favor of the Rush in the final period.

Entering the contest, the Sundogs had only the 13th ranked penalty kill in the league. On Friday night, Arizona held Rapid City scoreless on 9 chances while going 1-for-6 on the powerplay. Sundog goaltender Marco Emond made 29 saves and picked up his first shutout of the year. The two teams faceoff again tomorrow night at 7:05.
