Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Two second period goals by Corpus Christi proved to be too much for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to overcome in a 2-1 loss to the IceRays Saturday night at the American Bank Center. Joe Blaznek's third period tally got the Mudbugs back within one, but they couldn't get the equalizer and dropped to 16-9-2 on the season.

The Mudbugs, who were playing the game with only 12 skaters, outshot the IceRays 15-5 in the third period to try and complete the comeback, but goaltender Kris Tebbs was only beaten once in his seventh win of the season.

The first period ended scoreless with the teams trading unsuccessful powerplay opportunities. Ryan Mior made a number of nice saves late in the period to keep the IceRays off the scoreboard in spite of their 9-6 shot advantage.

Corpus Christi opened the scoring by holding a puck in a the Mudbugs blueline and freeing Curtis Huppe alone in slot, where he beat Mior through the five-hole to make it 1-0. The IceRays added to the lead on the powerplay when Adam Powell's shot from the circle made it through traffic in front and inside the far post to give Corpus Christi a 2-0 lead after the second period. The IceRayz held a 22-10 shot advantage after 40 minutes.

Bossier-Shreveport started coming on in the third period though, picking up the physical play and getting more chances in the Corpus Christi end. Blaznek was trailing a break in the zone when Joe Ori hit him with a pass in the high slot. Blaznek skated in a beat Tebbs with a hard wrist shot from the left circle that hit the post and went in for his eighth goal of the year. The Mudbugs kept coming as the third period went along, but couldn't get another tally to tie the game up.

Ryan Mior stopped 25 of the 27 shots he saw, but fell to .500 for the first time this year at 6-6. Tebbs made 24 saves in the win. The Mudbugs were outshot 27-25 and finished 0 for 4 on the powerplay, while Corpus Christi was 1 for 6.

The Mudbugs will continue their three-game road trip with a pair of mid-week Northeast Division games starting on Tuesday. That night the Mudbugs will visit the Tulsa Oilers for the third time this season before heading to Mississippi to take on the RiverKings on New Year's Eve. Opening faceoff for Tuesday's game is set for 7:05 pm at Tulsa's new BOK Center, so tune in on AM 1130 KWKH with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 pm or catch the live video feed online through the CHL Network.
