December 27, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[LOVELAND, Col.]-Chris Robertson scored three goals to lead the shorthanded Scorpions to a 6-4 victory over Colorado on Saturday night. It was the first time in franchise history the Scorps won in regulation at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Scorpions played a perfect first period and were able to grab an early lead. Craig Macdonald was on the doorstep and scored a power play goal, giving New Mexico a 1-0 lead.

The Scorpions came out on fire by increasing their lead throughout the second period. Chris Robertson got things started with a rebound goal at the 4:14 mark. On the next shift, Robertson found another loose puck in front of the net and scored his second of the game 12 seconds later.

Back to the power play went New Mexico and back into the scoring column they went. Lyon Messier launched the puck from the blue line that goaltender Morgan Cey never saw. Mitch Stephens was parked in front of the net and set a perfect screen. The goal was Messier's first in his professional career.

Colorado got their first goal of the game as Scott Polaski scored a power play goal at the 7:46 mark of the second period. The Eagles continued to pressure goaltender Andrew Martin, but Martin shined making save after save.

Mike MacDonald got free and wheeled into the Colorado zone only to get slashed by Greg Pankewicz. MacDonald was awarded a penalty and Pankewicz was also given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for arguing with the official.

MacDonald was not able to convert the penalty shot but the Scorpions made the home team pay on the ensuing power play. Craig Macdonald found another rebound in front of the net and scored for the second time in the contest.

Ryan Tobler scored his 18th goal of the season 4:16 into the third period. Robertson picked up his second hat trick of the season when he finished a great feed from Torren Delforte. McGrane scored his second of the game with a wraparound shot, making it a 6-3 game. Tobler tipped in his second goal of the contest with 16.6 seconds remaining to finish the night's scoring.
