
Mississippi Rallies Past Tulsa in Oklahoma

(Tulsa, OK) -- The Mississippi RiverKings rebounded from Friday's loss at home against Oklahoma City to handle the Tulsa Oilers 5-3 in Central Hockey League action the BOK Center on Saturday night.
After Tulsa's Jeff Christian opened the scoring in the first period, Mississippi answered with the next four goals, including three in the first period. Andrew Lackner scored an unassisted goal at 7:35 in the first session, followed by Brad Bonello at 8:57 and Garrett Larson scored on the power play at 12:04 for a 3-1 lead after twenty minutes.
In the second period, Dallas Costanzo gave the RiverKings a 4-1 lead at 10:17, but Tulsa answered with a goal from Jake Riddle for a 4-2 Mississippi lead after forty minutes.
Mississippi took a 5-2 advantage on a goal from Matt Pierce at 6:05 of the third period, and that looked to be the final score, until Bobby Reed scored a power play goal with one second remaining for the final 5-3 margin.
Mississippi outshot Tulsa 35-27 for the contest, including 15 shots in the second period. Goaltender Tyler Sims won his fifth of the season (5-3-0) with a 24-save effort. Kevin St. Pierre took the loss for Tulsa between the pipes with a 30-save performance.
The RiverKings were 1-for-4 on the power play, while Tulsa scored twice in seven chances.
With the win, Mississippi moved to 17-11-0 for the season, while Tulsa dropped to 8-15-3 for the year.
The RiverKings next play the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in a New Year's Eve battle at the DeSoto Civic Center, beginning at 7:05 PM. The evening includes the game, indoor fireworks, jersey auction, and much more. The night is capped off with a New Year's Eve party in the DCC Convention Hall, starting at 9:30 PM.
