Sugar Land battled Somerset through extras today but fell, 7-5, in 10 innings at Constellation Field. Despite the loss, the Skeeters have won four of their last six games and are now 6-6 to start the season.

In the first inning, leadoff center fielder Ryan Langerhans (2x4, 2R) reached base via walk and quickly advanced to second on a stolen base. Langerhans tagged up and went to third on a deep fly ball from right fielder Dustin Martin (0x5) before scoring on DH Nick Stavinoha's (2x4, RBI) outfield single, giving the Skeeters a 1-0 lead entering the second frame.

Somerset answered in the third, pushing across three runs to make it 3-1. The Patriots put up another run in the fifth, but Sugar Land continued to chip away at the deficit. Left fielder Neil Medchill (2x4, RBI) revived the Skeeters offense in the bottom fifth with a double to right field. With two outs, Langerhans hustled to beat out an infield single to first and move Medchill to third. Shortstop Rusty Ryal (1x5, 3RBI) then belted a three-run homer to left on a 2-2 count, tying the game at 4-4 entering the sixth.

Second baseman Brandon Wood (1x4, R) and Medchill put together a two-out rally with back-to-back doubles in the sixth, giving Sugar Land a one-run lead. Skeeters lefty Dan Meadows (1.1,2,1,1,0,3) entered the game in the top of the inning and sat the Patriots down in order before surrendering a game-tying run in the seventh.

Skeeters pitchers collectively allowed a season-high 17 hits in the contest. Starter Michael Nix (5.0,9,4,4,3,3) tossed 5.0 innings in his third start of the season, allowing four runs on nine hits to receive no decision. Reliever Roy Corcoran (1.2,1,0,0,0,0) held Somerset scoreless over 1.2 innings while left-hander Ben Kozlowski (1.1,4,2,1,0,1) put two runners on before exiting the game in the tenth. Right-hander Brian Broderick (0.2,1,0,0,0,1) was called upon to end the inning and retired two of his three batters faced.
