Luis Lopez Ties Bluefish Career Hit Record in Win over York

(York, PA. - May 7, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the York Revolution 8-2 in game two of the three game series on Wednesday evening at Santander Stadium.

By going 2-5 on the night, first baseman Luis Lopez collected his 817thcareer hit as a member of the Bridgeport Bluefish, tying the career hits mark set by Angel Espada back in 2007. Lopez, who also holds the Bridgeport career records for most Games Played, At-Bats, Doubles, Runs Batted In and Walks, is just one hit away from putting his name at the top of the chart in the career hits category as well.

Bridgeport got the offense going in the fourth inning by scoring four runs in the frame via centerfielder James Simmons's RBI single and shortstop Juan Martinez's three-run home run. The 'Fish would tack on a run in the fifth with an RBI single by leftfielder Denny Almonte and scored three more times in the seventh with RBI singles from Almonte and Martinez, plus an RBI sacrifice fly by second baseman Mike Richard.

Starting pitcher D.J. Mitchell (1-1) would earn the victory for Bridgeport, tossing five scoreless innings while scattering three hits and striking out six batters. Alain Quijano (1-1) picked up the loss for York.

Bridgeport will finish their three game series against York on Thursday morning with first pitch at 11:00 am before traveling to Camden for a three game series, which begins on Friday. The Bluefish will return home to face Long Island on Tuesday May 13th at 7:05pm.
