York Revolution News Release
The Bridgeport Bluefish won for the eighth time in nine games, handing the York Revolution an 8-2 defeat on Wednesday night at Santander Stadium. The Revs, now 6-6 on the season, will look to snap a four-game losing streak and avoid a sweep as the two teams meet again on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Scoreless into the fourth, Bridgeport took the lead with four unearned runs after an error to start the inning. James Simmons drove in the first run on a single to left, and Juan Martinez connected on a three-run homer to left-center with two outs to pad Bridgeport's advantage. The Bluefish added a run in the fifth on a two-out bloop single by Denny Almonte, the only earned run charged to Revs starter Alain Quijano (1-1) in his five innings of work.
Meanwhile, the Revs could not cash in against Bridgeport starter D.J. Mitchell (1-1), who issued six walks in five innings and threw just 50 strikes compared to 51 balls, but allowed only three hits to keep the Revs off the board. York's best chance came when Mitchell walked the bases loaded in the fifth inning, but after falling behind 2-0 on Johan Limonta, the righty came back to induce an inning-ending double play, surviving five innings to qualify for his first win of the season.
The Bluefish scored three more in the seventh, receiving another RBI bloop single from Almonte, as well as a sac fly from Mike Richard and a run-scoring infield hit from Martinez who picked up his fourth RBI of the night. A safe call at first base on Martinez' hit prompted an argument from York manager Mark Mason, resulting in his first ejection of the season.
The Revs did manage two runs in the eighth, scoring on a broken-bat RBI single by Limonta and an RBI triple to right by Ofilio Castro, who went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to six consecutive games. Castro is now batting .435 (10-for-23) on the streak.
York's Mike McClendon (1-1, 9.00) will face Bridgeport's Hunter Jones (1-0, 0.90) on Thursday morning for Baseball in Education Day. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
