Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
Sugar Land dropped the series opener against Lancaster, 3-2, tonight at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Despite the loss, the club remains at 12-12 (.500) in their 24 road games this year and is now 27-24 overall on the season.
Starter Clint Everts (4.2,4,1,1,5,1) went 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while surrendering five walks to take the loss. Lefty Cory VanAllen (0.1,2,0,0,0,1) began Sugar Land's bullpen work in the fifth, relieving Everts to face three batters and end the inning. Ramon Delgado (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) and Jared Wells (1.0,2,0,0,0,2) held Lancaster to just two hits through their respective sixth and seventh frames, while Brian Broderick (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) fanned two of his four Barnstormer batters for a scoreless eighth inning of work.
Offensively, the Skeeters scattered seven hits on the Barnstormers led by center fielder Michael Rockett (2x4, 2 R, 2 RBI). The Sugar Land native recorded the first multi-home run game of his career with the club tonight, first knocking a solo home run in the second inning to give the Skeeters an early 1-0 lead. Lancaster plated three quick runs in the fifth before Rockett launched another longball on a first pitch strike, trimming his club's deficit to 3-2 entering the seventh innings stretch.
Second baseman Chase Lambin (1x4), first baseman Delwyn Young (1x4), right fielder Brian Barton (1x4), designated hitter Nick Stavinoha (1x3, BB) and third baseman Dominic Ramos (1x4) each contributed one hit a piece in the contest, while left fielder Ryan Langerhans went 0x3 with a walk in the second inning. By doing so, Langerhans extended his currently streak of reaching base safely to 34 straight games, which stood as the best consecutive game on-base streak in the Atlantic League prior to tonight's matchup.
