
Crabs Comeback Falls Short

SUGAR LAND, TX . - In the finale of their six-game series, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs mounted a valiant come back but it came up short as they fell to the Sugar Land Skeeters by a final count of 9-7. Southern Maryland has now dropped a season-high four straight games away from home.
David Pauley (5-3) earned his second win of the series and third win of the season against the Blue Crabs going 6.1 innings allowing two earned runs. In his first start with the team, Brian Grening suffered the loss surrendering six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, Sugar Land responded with four runs to take the lead. Taylor Harbin tied the game with an RBI single and later in the inning Brian Barton came up with a two-run single to give the Skeeters their first lead. Nick Stavinoha followed with an RBI single to cap off the four-run frame.
Ryan Langerhans and Delwyan Young helped extend the Skeeters advantage in the 4th inning with back-to-back RBI singles to up the lead to 6-1. Three more runs were added in the 6th highlighted by run-scoring hits by Travis Scott and Dominic Ramos.
Down by eight, the Crabs began to chip away in the 8th with three runs. An RBI single by Jermaine Mitchell followed by sacrifice flies by Jonny Kaplan and Jake Opitz trimmed the deficit to 9-4.
The first four batters reached for the Blue Crabs in the 8th inning to spurn another three-run rally. Jonny Dziomba came up with an RBI single and Kaplan capped off the three-run rally with an RBI single of his own that brought the game to 9-7.
