Bridgeport Edges York in Series Opener

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 17, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-31) defeated the York Revolution (30-22), 2-1 in the first of a four game series on Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Prentice Redman got the Bluefish on the board first with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning. It took York six and two-thirds innings to score their first run when Ofilio Castro singled home Eric Patterson, who had tripled. That run by the Revolution snapped a scoreless streak of 15.2 innings by the Bluefish after their 2-0 win last night with guest manager Pete Rose at the helm. Bridgeport then scored when Austin Gallagher led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double and was replaced by pinch-runner Mike Richard, who then scored the go ahead run on a double by Redman.

For the "˜Fish, Redman stood out going 2-for-4 with two RBI, a home run, a double and one run scored.

For the Bluefish, starter Hunter Jones (3-4) picked up the win going eight innings giving up just four hits one earned run, no walks with seven strikeouts. For the Revolution, starter Alain Quijano (5-4) went seven and two-thirds innings brilliant going seven innings giving up zero runs, only allowing four hits, just one walk with four strikeouts. Closer Winston Abreu picked up his eleventh save of the season for Bridgeport.

Bridgeport and York will play game two of their four game series tomorrow night with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. It's Kids Eat Free and Wacky Wednesday, courtesy of WEBE 108 .
