Skeeters Take Down Blue Crabs 9-7 in Series Finale

Sugar Land took down Southern Maryland, 9-7, in the finale of a six-game homestand at Constellation Field. With the victory tonight, the Skeeters claim their fourth consecutive win and are now 8-1 against the Blue Crabs in 2014, 27-23 overall.

Right-hander David Pauley (6.1,7,4,3,1,5) started on the hill for the Skeeters and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four runs to score (three earned) on seven hits and five strikeouts. After the win tonight, Pauley improves to 5-3 so far this season and remains third among the Atlantic League's best pitchers.

Center fielder Michael Rockett (1x4, R) got the offensive action started in the second with a base hit up the middle. The next batter, shortstop Taylor Harbin (2x4, 2 R, RBI), ripped a double down the left field line that scored Rockett from first base. Left fielder Ryan Langerhans (1x3, 3 R, RBI) started the second round of the batting order with a walk and wasbrought home by right fielder Brian Barton (1x4, 2 RBI), along with Harbin to give the Skeeters two more runs. First baseman Travis Scott (1x2, 2 R, RBI) was the last player to score in the second via a base hit from designated hitter Nick Stavinoha (2x4, 2 RBI), giving Sugar Land a 4-1 lead going into the third inning.

Harbin got the fourth frame rolling with a base knock to the Blue Crab shortstop and was driven in by a triple from Langerhans, who was also brought back to the plate on a sac fly from second basemen Delwyn Young (1x3, R, RBI).

The top of the batting order started off the sixth inning with a Langerhans walk, followed by Young getting hit by a pitch. Scott then knocked a double to left center and allowed Langerhans toreturn home for the first run of the inning. A sacrifice hit by Stavinoha allowed Young to cross the plate for run number two of the frame. The third and final run of the sixthcame when Scott was plated by a single to left field from third baseman Dominic Ramos (1x5, RBI).

Ramon Delgado (0.2,0,0,0,1,1) came into relieve Pauley in the seventh and pitched 0.2 innings without giving up a run or a hit. Right-hander Roy Corcoran (0.0,2,3,3,2,0) took the mound to start the eighth and gave up three runs on two hits before being relieved by Ben Kozlowski (0.2,1,0,0,0,0), who only gave up one hit prior to leaving the game. Gary Majewski (1.1,1,0,0,0,1) was the final pitcher to enter the game and tossed 1.1 innings before collecting his ninth save of the season.

Road Trip Ahead:

The Skeeters are on the road tomorrow night as they take on the Barnstormers for the first of a four-game series at Clipper MagazineStadium. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 6:00 p.m. CT. as the Skeeters look to continue their current win streak and improve to 28-23 on the season.
