Arkansas Travelers News Release
Springfield, MO - The Arkansas Travelers snapped a second half slump against the Springfield Cardinals with a 4-2 win on Wednesday night at Hammons Field.
RHP Albert Suarez (W, 10-9) guided the Travs with 7.1 brilliant innings of work, allowing just two hits. An opposite field two-run home run poke down the left field line by LF Nick Martini in the fourth was the only blemish to Suarez' night. Suarez allowed the two runs on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Suarez lowered his ERA to 3.04 in 2015.
LHP Greg Mahle (S, 14) earned the save with 1.2 scoreless innings after Suarez to shut the door.
Arkansas scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. 2B Sherman Johnson began the frame with a double off the right field wall and scored on a wild pitch. After CF Chad Hinshaw walked with two outs, RF Blake Gailen blasted his team-leading 10th home run of the season to right to put Arkansas up 3-0. The home run for Gailen was his third in the last four games.
Hinshaw finished 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, walk, RBI and stolen base. Hinshaw has a stolen base in five straight games and has 21 over his last 32 games. In five games on Arkansas' roadtrip, Hinshaw is 10-for-17 with four walks, six stolen bases, three doubles and four runs scored.
DH Raywilly Gomez finished 2-for-4.
The Cardinals had only one at-bat with a runner in scoring position (0-for-1).
RHP Andrew Morales (L, 4-8) settled in nicely after the Gailen home run and worked seven innings in the loss.
With the win, Arkansas jumped back up to two games ahead of Springfield with five games remaining in the second half standings. The Travelers and Cardinals will play game three of the four-game series on Thursday night at Hammons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
